For my international audience, I thought it prudent to include a glossary of South Africanisms to assist you with unfamiliar South African vocabulary.
- Boerewors - A tasty South African style sausage (usually beef) made in various styles with different spices.
- Braai - A South African outdoor grill or barbecue. Usually includes boerewors and other meats, mielies, and braaibroodjies cooked over coals or wood. Tends to be more about the social, and less about the food.
- Braaibroodjies - Sandwiches usually filled with cheese, onion and tomato and toasted over the braai.
- “Just now” – In a while. Maybe never.
- Lus - Keen for, excited for
- Mielies – Corn on the cob
- “Now, now” - In a little while. Maybe never.
The list is a work in progress and will be updated as necessary.
